Lawrence Dallaglio believes that the success that former England coaches' Stuart Lancaster and Andy Farrell have enjoyed since leaving the national set-up could "come back to haunt" the team moving forward.

Lancaster has been involved with Irish side Leinster since departing as England Head Coach after overseeing a disastrous World Cup on home soil in 2015.

Leinster were crowned winners of the European Champions Cup after a 15-12 victory over Racing 92 in Bilbao at the weekend, in what was the first European tie to be staged in Spain.

And Lancaster, who works with the club in an advisory role, as well as a coaching position with the Ireland national team, has impressed Dallaglio.

The former England World Cup winner has also credited Farrell - now an assistant to Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt - for turning their fortunes around, which saw them win the 2018 Six Nations Grand Slam.

“You listen to the players talking about his input and they can’t speak highly enough of him,” he said per The Mirror. “Everyone likes a comeback story and there is probably none bigger than Stuart’s.

“He had a very public fall from grace after the World Cup. He took a huge amount of criticism; some of it fair, much of it definitely unfair.

“Out of adversity he’s risen again and he’s shown what he is - which is a great bloke and more importantly a very good coach.

“The irony now of course is that he is heavily invested in Irish rugby, along with Andy Farrell. The two coaches England let go in 2015 could come back to haunt them.”

Dallaglio was also asked about the possibility of Lancaster potentially returning to the England set up in the future but believe his reputation will only improve the longer he actually stays at Leinster.

He added: “If I was him I wouldn’t be leaving Leinster any time soon given the group of players they have there.

“I don’t think there’s any need for him to rush back. Once you’ve coached the European champions there’s only one or two jobs you want.”

The ex-England captain is probably right. Why would he want to leave?

Since a disastrous Six Nations earlier this year, Lancaster's successor Eddie Jones, has found himself under similar scrutiny to that of the man he replaced.

Another poor World Cup showing in 2019 and there's every chance there will be a coaching vacancy at the RFU to fill once again.
