What Liverpool fans said about Emre Can after Germany announced their WC squad

Germany will arrive at this summer’s World Cup as the hot favourites to keep hold of their title.

Joachim Low’s side have retained most of the stars from 2014 like Toni Kroos, Mats Hummels, Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira and Thomas Muller, while adding some fresh world-class faces.

The likes of Leroy Sane, Joshua Kimmich and Timo Werner make Die Mannschaft an even more frightening prospect, with Germany and Brazil the two favourites with the bookies right now.

And on Tuesday, Low released his 27-man provisional squad to the footballing world, with most fans pretty much left jaw-dropped by the sheer strength they possess.

Marco Reus made the cut, while Freiburg’s Nils Petersen was picked ahead of Bayern Munich’s Sandro Wagner – a bold call.

However, the big talking point on Twitter was the absence of one man; Emre Can.

The Liverpool midfielder hasn’t exactly made himself a popular figure at Anfield recently due to the fact that he appears to be on his way to Juventus on a free transfer.

And Liverpool fans on Twitter were quick to react to the news, with most pointing out something very interesting in the fact that he wasn’t at Anfield on Sunday as he was rumoured to be in Germany.

Surely if his injury has prevented him from making the squad, he could have been on Merseyside saying his goodbyes after the Brighton game?

It’s an odd situation in truth, one which speaks volumes about the relationship between Can and Liverpool.

It’s a realistic possibility that he is simply absent for the World Cup through injury, but the fact he didn’t show up on Sunday is worrying.

Joel Matip – who is also currently injured – was present, so why wasn’t Can?

The sooner this ordeal is over and done with, the better for both parties.
