Both Amir Khan and Kell Brook have made comebacks this year that helped push them into big-fight contention.

Khan ended a nearly two-year hiatus from the ring to stop Canadian fighter Phil Lo Greco inside 40 seconds in April - and was immediately challenged by fellow Matchroom Boxing fighter Brook.

Brook has made a comeback of his own, defeating Sergey Rabchenko just shy of a year after back-to-back defeats had derailed his career.

A fight between the two is something that has been chased by the duo and victories for both men has positioned it to happen.

Brook entered the ring immediately after the Lo Greco fight to confront Khan, with the latter biting back saying:  "The weight is an issue with Kell, I'm a 147lb fighter.

"I will fight and beat Kell Brook and the world knows it.

"Brook's been living off my name for a long time. I came and signed with Matchroom, I'm the one chasing Kell."

But now, out of absolutely nowhere, the fight has been put in jeopardy after Brook received a callout from a different fighter.

And not just any fighter but IBF and WBA (Super) world light-middleweight champion Jarrett Hurd.

Hurd is looking for a new challenge and trainer Ernesto Rodriguez had the name of 21-year-old WBO champion Jaime Munguia put to him.

Rodriguez and Hurd, however, have other ideas.

"We are targeting Kell Brook right now," Rodriguez told Bad Left Hook.

"Munguia just won his title. He is an exciting young fighter with much ahead.

"No need to call anyone out. We will wait and see what happens."

As for why exactly Brook is suddenly being offered a chance at a world championship, that becomes clear as Rodriguez explains their long-term plans involve WBC world light-middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.

"We are trying to get ready for Charlo," said Rodriguez.

"Jarrett wants his ass bad - but I’m not letting that happen until we get a right-handed fight, fully be back on rhythm."

And that is where Brook enters the frame.

"Brook would be perfect - big name, top three, good financial reward, plus he called out Jarrett."

A fight with Khan may no longer be at the top of Brook's list - and who could possibly blame him.
