England’s 23-man squad for the World Cup will be officially announced on Wednesday. Many journalists have started to reveal what they’ve been hearing ahead of Gareth Southgate’s announcement and it’s bad news for Jack Wilshere. The Arsenal midfielder has played in 38 matches this season but he hasn’t done enough to earn a spot on the plane, according to several reports.Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand is also expected to be left at home. While those two will start to book their summer holidays, Fabian Delph should start packing his bags. The Manchester City player is heading to Russia, the reports claim. There is simply no way that Southgate can please everyone with his squad but one omission that England fans completely agree with is that of Joe Hart.

Hart is out

It was first reported that the Manchester City goalkeeper, who has spent the season on loan at West Ham, will be left out of the squad on Tuesday.

It’s not hard to understand why given Hart has made a plethora of mistakes this season and has been replaced in West Ham’s starting line-up by Adrian.

Burnley’s Nick Pope will instead be chosen, along with Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland.

It’s a big call from Southgate considering Hart was his ‘keeper during the qualification process but Rio Ferdinand is completely behind it.

“In my eyes it's the right decision,” Ferdinand told Press Association Sport, per the Daily Mail.

“What is Joe Hart going to learn from going to this World Cup? He has been to a World Cup before, he has played tournament football before.

“What is Gareth Southgate going to learn about him? Whereas a young kid...

“I went to the World Cup in '98, didn't play one minute of football, but it was a great learning curve for me.

“When I went to the next World Cup and played in 2002, I didn't have anything I needed to learn, I wasn't apprehensive about things. I'd already seen what the best methods were.

“Taking a young kid to go there and experience that I think is a much better way to go.”

Some will suggest that Hart’s experience will benefit the squad but when it comes down to ability, Pope is the right choice.
