It's no exaggeration that this summer could be one of the most important in Arsenal's history.
Not only are the Gunners due to bring in a new manager to succeed Arsene Wenger, but a squad overhaul is needed if they're to challenge for silverware.
While dangerous going forward through the likes of Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, defensively Arsenal have been woeful over the past nine months.
A new goalkeeper is essential with Petr Cech ageing and past his best, not to mention one or two new centre-backs.
Reinforcements in midfield must also be a priority following a season where Granit Xhaka proved he isn't up to the task of marshalling the defence against top opposition.
Ian Wright certainly hopes money will be spent and he hopes the new manager will sign at least three new players.
"We know there is no huge war chest for the next boss," he wrote for The Sun. "Around £50 million has been quoted - not in the same league as Chelsea or the Manchester clubs.
DEFINING SUMMER
"By my reckoning, Arsenal need a centre-back, a goalkeeper and possibly another midfielder.
"What the new boss has to do is arrive with the knowledge he must develop what's already there and turn them into Premier League stars.
"Arsenal need [a manager] with strength of character, confidence, tactical and coaching ability and an affinity for youth."
Arsenal have been linked with Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak and Borussia Dortmund's Sokratis Papastathopoulos in recent times and now they have a top-class midfielder on their radar.
According to the Evening Standard, among other sources, the north London side have made contact with Nice's Jean Michael Seri about a potential £40 million move this summer.
Arsenal were previously thought to be the frontrunners for his signature which, naturally, seriously excited the club's fans.
But there's bad news, because the Standard also report that Seri would actually prefer a move to Manchester City or Chelsea - and both clubs are interested.
Seri is looking at City because of the Champions League and Pep Guardiola, while he regards Chelsea as a more attractive prospect than Arsenal.
Awkward. The Ivorian is exactly the kind of combative defensive midfielder Arsenal need, so they're going to have to pull out all the stops to have any hope of acquiring him.
