Gareth Southgate is set to announce his 23-man England squad for this summer's World Cup today, but it's already becoming clear who will and who won't feature.Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere haven't made the cut, with Manchester City's Fabian Delph due to travel instead of the Arsenal man.And it's now been revealed by the Daily Mail that Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold will be named in the squad. The 19-year-old right-back has come on leaps and bounds over the past nine months and based on recent form you have to say he deserves to play in Russia. It would appear youth is the way forward for Southgate, yet questions are being asked of whether leaving out Wilshere is the right decision.Wilshere has shaken his injury niggles to make just under 40 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season and when he's in form he's hard to stop. It's the way he picks up the ball from deep and drives forward that sets him apart from the likes of Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier.

WILSHERE SNUBBED

And that's what England could end up missing in Russia - a player that's prepared to burst past opponents and make something happen, rather than play the simple pass.

Whether Southgate lives to regret his decision remains to be seen, but Wilshere hasn't seemed too bothered about not making the squad.

He posted two funny tweets this morning in response to one England fan's proposition this summer (see below).

What he's now posted on his Instagram story is a lot more salty, though. In the funny screenshot below of Wilshere pulling a face, he wrote: "What am I going to do for the next seven weeks?"

It's the emojis that make it. Clearly not being included in the England squad has annoyed Wilshere a little bit - and you can hardly blame him.

For a long time it was said that injuries stopped the 26-year-old from realising his potential. Well, he's gone a whole season relatively unscathed and he still can't catch a break.

Southgate has his reasons for not selecting Wilshere and he just needs to hope he doesn't end up regretting his decision in Russia.
