It is clear that Jose Mourinho has to improve his Manchester United squad.

Mourinho's men were powerless as their City rivals stormed to the Premier League rivals.

Although they finished second, they were still 19 points behind Pep Guardiola's record breaking side.

David de Gea also echoed the view that the Red Devils need to improve.

"I believe that, for a club like United, even second place is simply not enough," he told United Review, per the Metro.

"We have to be fighting hard to win something and we have that opportunity next week [in the FA Cup final against Chelsea].

"You get nothing for coming second or getting close to the league leaders.

"In the end, you always have to be fighting to win something, as that’s what this club and the fans really deserve and so it’s just that – second place is not enough."

MOURINHO HOLDS TALKS WITH ATTACKER

And it seems Mourinho is wasting no time in attempting to improve his squad.

One of the major problems in this Man United side was the right-wing position.

Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial all started there at various points this season, to little success.

And now Mourinho is moving to make improvements there.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho has officially held preliminary talks with Chelsea star, Willian.

Willian has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but it seems the possibility of him making the move this summer is becoming more and more likely.

Of course, Mourinho brought Willian to the Premier League when he signed him from Chelsea in 2013.

The Portuguese manager has attempted to sign him in the past two seasons for United, although it seems he is making more progress this campaign.

Mourinho had previously noted that he will not be making any attacking additions this summer, but he is prepared to make an exception in Willian's case.

Mourinho clearly holds Willian in high regards. And making a move for the Brazilian star may well be worth it.

MOURINHO HINTED AT MAKING BRAZILIAN SIGNINGS

Mourinho hinted last month that he could buy a number of Brazilians this summer.

"I think that a team without a Brazilian isn't a team," Mourinho said.  "But also, a squad with three or four Brazilian athletes, depending on their profile, cannot make a great team too. I'm kidding!

"I think their talent is fantastic and the creativity of the Brazilian player cannot be measured. If a European team, like, very European, could have a Brazilian in their squad, it would bring a 'Brazilian thing' to the game and I think that's very important."
