Gareth Southgate was never going to please everyone with his 23-man England squad.

While the Three Lions boss didn’t spring too many surprises, the inclusions of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabian Delph and Danny Welbeck may have raised a few eyebrows.

While those three will be delighted to be on the plane to Russia, a few big names have missed out.

Joe Hart - who has been capped 75 times by his country - didn’t make the list, nor did Liverpool’s Adam Lallana - although he made the five-man reserve list.

And another absentee was Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere has struggled was injuries in recent years but many England fans see the Arsenal midfielder as the perfect player to bring a bit of creativity to this side.

On Thursday, Southgate was asked about Wilshere’s snub and explained that "Jack had a good spell in the lead up to Christmas and just after. He was not as effective towards the end of the season.”

Wilshere has seemingly taken the bad news well and has uploaded a number of humorous posts on social media.

It seems he was well aware that this decision was coming.

However, many are suggesting that, despite not having the greatest season, he should be in the England squad.

And that includes one Chelsea youngster.

Tariq Uwakwe, who plays for Arsenal’s rivals, took to Twitter to show his support for Wilshere.

The 18-year-old tweeted: “England need JackWilsheree more than they know for Russia.”

Is Ukakwe right? Do England actually really need Wilshere?

At least it's nice to see Wilshere has support from fellow professionals - even if they do play for a rival club.

Uwakwe himself will be hoping to be playing for England in a major tournament in the years to come.

He’s represented the Three Lions at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level and looks an extremely exciting prospect.
