Domestic leagues in Europe will all be over in a few days time, with the Champions League final next weekend bringing the curtain down on proceedings.

In line with new FIFA regulations, transfer windows have opened early ahead of the World Cup, allowing clubs to officially sign players before the tournament starts in mid-June.

But some clubs have a job to do before they can even think about signing players. Some clubs will be busy trying to offer contracts to their existing players in the hope to persuade them to stay at the club.

However, time is running out quickly and if they haven’t signed a new contract by now, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that they will sign a new deal at their existing club before July 1 - when they become a free agent.

As a result, we’ve put together an incredible XI of players that are currently set to be available for free transfer in just a few months time.

There is going to be plenty of clubs sniffing around these players in the weeks to come.

GOALKEEPER: GIANLUIGI BUFFON

Buffon announced on Thursday he will leave Juventus this summer and revealed he’s had some “interesting proposals” regarding his future. He could still retire but a club could snap up a 40-year-old legendary goalkeeper on a free transfer…

DEFENDER: GIORGIO CHIELLINI

Seven years younger than Buffon but Chiellini is up for grabs this summer. There’s a chance he will sign an extension with the Old Lady, though.

DEFENDER: ANDREA BARZAGLI

Another Juve stalwart could be set to leave the club for free this summer. Again, there’s every chance the 37-year-old could sign a contract extension to keep him at the club for one more year.

DEFENDER: KWADWO ASAMOAH

Yet another Juventus defender that is out of contract. The 29-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club and it’s a bit more uncertain whether or not he’ll stay beyond this summer.

MIDFIELD: EMRE CAN

Can hasn’t played for Liverpool since mid-March after complaining of a back injury and it seems he’s played his last game for the club. Reports suggest he’ll join Juventus after the Champions League final.

MIDFIELD: MAROUANE FELLAINI

He’s spent five years at Manchester United but is the Belgian set to leave Old Trafford this summer? Jose Mourinho seems to want to keep him but it might be too late.

MIDFIELD: HATEM BEN ARFA

Ben Arfa recently celebrated one year since he last played for Paris Saint-Germain and his contract is now up at the Parc des Princes. After not playing for so long, there might not be a massive queue of clubs looking to sign him.

MIDFIELD: JACK WILSHERE

There doesn’t seem to be too much panic by club or player about Wilshere’s expiring contract. The club have supposedly offered him reduced terms but there might be plenty of Premier League clubs willing to offer him a big deal due to his lack of transfer fee.

MIDFIELD: YAYA TOURE

Toure will leave Manchester City as a legend after seven years at the club. The 35-year-old might not be able to play every week these days but he’s still capable of producing magic. The Chinese Super League or MLS beckons.

STRIKER: FERNANDO TORRES

Torres finished his Atletico Madrid career with Europa League victory. The 34-year-old is reaching the end of his playing days but still knows where the back of the net is. A reunion with Rafa Benitez at Newcastle? A reunion with Steven Gerrard at Rangers? Or one final payday in China?

STRIKER: MARIO BALOTELLI

Balotelli has looked like a new player in Nice, scoring 26 goals this season. He’s set to return to the Italy set-up after Roberto Mancini’s appointment and there will be plenty of clubs interested in taking him on a free transfer - despite his reputation.
