It's no secret that WWE's pairing of Rusev and Aiden English has lead to one of the most popular gimmicks in professional wrestling today - Rusev Day.
Since Rusev and English have paired up together, the WWE Universe has really taken a liking to the duo. Despite WWE's attempts to push them as heels, fans still rally behind them and yearn for the company to push the gimmick.
Despite pleas from WWE fans, the promotion seems content to leave Rusev Day where it is on the card, without attempting to capitalize on the momentum behind the gimmick right now.
In fact, a few weeks ago WWE teased that they could be breaking up Rusev and English by introducing Lana to the mix. Lana is Rusev's former manager on WWE TV, and his wife in real-life.
Fans were worried that Rusev Day could be nearing its bitter end, but Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reports that may not be the case.
Meltzer reports that instead of Lana stealing Rusev away from English and breaking the team up, WWE simply could just be adding in Lana as the third member of the group. Here's what he had to say (quotes via Ringside News):
“So it looked in the Rusev and Lana and Aiden English [backstage segment], it looked more like they were going to be together as a trio than Lana stealing Rusev away from him the way they did the thing this week.”
All that being said, with every popular tag team in WWE, the end is inevitable. We've seen it happen to The Shield, Enzo Amore and Big Cass, Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens, and so many more.
The fact of the matter is, Rusev Day can't last forever, and the Bulgarian Brute will more likely than not drop English sooner rather than later in order to embark on his singles career again.
Perhaps that could happen as soon as after the upcoming Money In The Bank (MITB) pay-per-view (PPV). Only time will tell.
What are your thoughts on Meltzer saying that instead of breaking Rusev and English up, WWE could simply be adding Lana to the mix? Do you think this is a good move by creative? And what would you like to see happen with Rusev Day? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below!
