So Mikel Arteta is the new Arsenal manager, right?

It's been almost a month since the news broke that Arsene Wenger was leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer and speculation over his successor has raged on for just as long. With the World Cup fast approaching, reports would have you believe that Arteta is indeed the favourite.

Massimiliano Allegri looked one of the frontrunners for the job, but swiftly ruled himself out of contention after sealing the double with Juventus.

Then there's Luis Enrique. The former Barcelona boss priced himself out of the job despite having contacts within the Arsenal hierarchy.

Patrick Vieira was contacted about the position, too, yet later remarked that he thought the approach was simply a 'token gesture.'

Arteta favourite for Arsenal job

That's not to mention the fact Carlo Ancelotti, Bruno Labbadia, Julian Nagelsmann and Zeljko Buvac have also been ruled out over the last few weeks.

Consequently, the likelihood of Areta taking over looks to increase by the day and The Sun have even reported that the powers that be at Manchester City have given their blessings.

Well, that's all well and good but there's been a twist in the narrative that has the potential to thwart Arteta's bid, just when it looked sewn up.

Arsenal to interview Thierry Henry

It was reported on Thursday afternoon by Sky sources that the club were set to interview a candidate many had assumed was out of the running - Thierry Henry.

The Arsenal legend was touted for the job when Wenger initially bowed, yet has been absent from the majority of reports ever since.

It's believed that Arsenal will stage an interview with Henry early next week over the vacant position.

The report does reiterate, however, that Arteta still holds the upper hand and was interviewed by the club on Thursday.

In other words, Henry could seriously do with pulling it out the bag on Monday.

Is it a 'token gesture' like the Vieira approach or are Arsenal seriously considering their all-time top scorer?

Only time will tell, but it goes to show that Arteta doesn't have the job wrapped up like many have suggested.

Arsenal are certainly covering all bases, even if so many coaches are out of the running.
