It's no secret that for some time now, Floyd Mayweather has been teasing about the possibility of fighting in the UFC, and we've been given a more clearer picture as to when this might happen.
That's after trainer Tyron Woodley told fans in a live stream chat on Thursday morning informing them of when he will start training Mayweather in MMA.
“I just talked to Floyd. He was in Singapore…somewhere else. I just talked to him a couple of days ago. So when he gets back in town next week, me and him are going to start training,” he confirmed.
If you're thinking we've heard this before and still no closer to it happening, it might be worth reading on as not only has Woodley told us about how he'll be training Mayweather in MMA, this time he also gave us an estimated start date which hasn't been said until now.
In an interview with Ben Thompson of Fight Hype back in March, Mayweather had told us that he had already begun training, but in a more preparatory fashion.
Mayweather said: “I’ve started training already. Not the physical part, endurance part. So far I just started running… and Mayweather Promotions has signed their first MMA fighter.”
Not only have we heard from Woodley about an approximate start date for training with Mayweather to begin, but the undefeated American also mentioned Woodley by name when talking about training in MMA.
“Me and Woodley bumped into each other on numerous occasions.
"We talked, we said we need to start working out… I’ma be working with different guys in the Jiu Jitsu world. My wrestling game, I’ll be working with guys with the wrestling. My kicking game, I’ma be working with guys in the kicking game. Before I get in the octagon I gotta be well-rounded all around the board.”
Despite all the talk of Mayweather training to join MMA, most fans are sceptical as to whether or not he'll actually fight in the UFC or any other MMA competitions.
One thing we do know is training will start and the interest to fight is there - it's just a case of waiting to see if the American follows through and makes his debut in the sport.
