In what is turning out to be the most bizarre feud of 2018 so far, the bitter verbal battle between Jon Jones and Chuck Liddell has continued on social media this week.

With Jones currently unable to compete with CSAC revoking his license, not many would have ever thought that this year, we’d still see Bones and the near-50-year-old Iceman going at it, with the latter chasing a super fight against Jones.

WAR OF WORDS

The UFC Hall of Famer has already announced that he’s coming out of retirement to take on Tito Ortiz to complete the trilogy, a bout which could take place later this year under Oscar De La Hoya’s new MMA venture.

After that, he wants two warm-up fights before taking on Jones.

However, with Liddell being vocal about potentially meeting Jones over the years, his latest comments earlier this week on The MMA Hour seemed to have rubbed Jones the wrong way, as he’s hit back on social media in the only way he can.

Following their initial exchange, Liddell hit back on Wednesday that the Octagon would be the perfect place for Jones to ‘learn from a true legend,’ while he also took aim at Jones’ conduct and issues outside of the cage.

He replied to Jones’ responses by tweeting: “I figure [the cage] is a good place for a youngin like u to learn from a true legend and champion on how to really fight and conduct your life inside and outside the ring.”

FIRING BACK

As expected, Jones fired back on social media claiming that Liddell is far from innocent while poking fun at his record by screenshotting a section of his professional record from Wikipedia to claim that Liddell can’t really teach him how to fight.

Over the series of three tweets, Jones posted: “Brother, I don’t have to be retired to be a legend first of all. And you talking to me about conducting my life outside the cage is just hysterical. Chuck, we all know you’re far from innocent."

“@ChuckLiddell and as far as you teaching me how to ‘really fight.’"

“I’m done with all this internet bull**** for the time being, if you have something else to say to me, I’ve already invited you down to Albuquerque. Take care old man Ladelle.”

Although a fight is doubtful to take place, fans have mixed feelings about the whole situation.

Some are enjoying the bitter words exchanged between the pair, others don’t want Liddell to fight again - especially against arguably the greatest pound for pound fighter of all time in Jones - while others aren’t pleased that Jones is open to fighting a man of Liddell’s age.
