Manchester City have made an audacious attempt to sign Chelsea star Didier Drogba.
City have already added Yaya Toure and David Silva to their ranks this summer in multi-million pound deals, but they are now reportedly turning their interests to the Chelsea marksman - with The Sun suggesting that a £20 million offer has been tabled.
The Eastlands club are hardly short of strikers - with the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz already among their number - but a deal for the 32-year-old Ivory Coast international could provide them with the firepower required to launch a genuine assault for the Premier League title.
"Today he's at Chelsea. Maybe there will be surprises before August 31," Drogba's agent Thierno Seydi told Radio Monte Carlo.
"I haven't spoken to just anybody. The only contact I've had directly was with City,
"At his age I can no longer hide the financial aspect. The club that want Didier will have to meet the price."
However, City's director of communications Vicky Kloss has attempted to quash speculation linking Drogba with a move to Manchester.
"We can categorically state we have no interest in signing Didier Drogba and any suggestion of an approach is entirely without foundation," Kloss told The Times.
Should Drogba leave Stamford Bridge, then he is likely to link-up with Inter Milan whizkid Mario Balotelli - with City believed to be on the verge of securing a £30 million deal for the 19-year-old.
