Thomas Gravesen has packed an awful lot into his 42 years. The retired midfielder enjoyed an excellent career, playing with Hamburg in the Bundesliga, Everton in the Premier League and Celtic in the Scottish Premier League. He also enjoyed a season with Spanish giants Real Madrid, who stunned everyone by signing the Denmark international back in 2005.Since hanging up his boots in 2008, Gravesen has lived what many people would consider ‘the dream’.Per a report from Spanish newspaper Marca in 2016, Gravesen now lives in Las Vegas with his model wife and is now worth €100 million after investing the money that he earned during his playing career.Gravesen’s net worth has also been boosted by his post-football career as a professional poker player.Like we said, living the dream.

What Gravesen said to Ferguson during Old Firm derby

It turns out that during his playing career Gravesen was also a decent guy, too.

David Weir, speaking to Open Goal, has told a cracking story about what Gravesen once said to former Rangers’ captain Barry Ferguson during - yes, during - an Old Firm derby.

Unaware that Rangers and Celtic players shouldn’t be friendly with each other, especially when the two historic rivals meet, Gravesen ended up asking Ferguson if he knew of any nice restaurants in Glasgow.

Weir, who played for Rangers between 2007-2012, recalled: “I remember coming back into the dressing room at half-time and Barry going ‘f***ing what about your mate?’

Weir tells the story brilliantly

“I said ‘what do you mean?’

“He said ‘Gravesen. He said to me ‘Hey mate, do you know any nice restaurants in Glasgow?’”

Incredible.

Ferguson couldn’t believe what the tough-tackling Dane was asking him.

They were supposed to be at war on the pitch and there was Gravesen asking an opponent where he could grab a bite to eat later that evening.

You’ve got to laugh.
