Julio Jones is a superstar wide receiver and he wants Atlanta Falcons to pay him as such.

But for those of you who play fantasy football, the Atlanta Falcons’ key man gets a bad name. The majority of fans out there these days base their opinions on football players on how they perform for them in fantasy, with Jones’ lack of touchdowns over the last four years underwhelming to say the least.

Jones has scored 23 touchdowns over that span while Odell Beckham Jr has 38 despite missing the large part of his fourth campaign in the NFL last year. But Beckham has only gone over 1,400 receiving yards once in that time whereas Jones has four consecutive seasons of 1,400 yards or more. Not even Pittsburgh Steelers’ Antonio Brown can match that.

Despite only bagging three touchdowns last term, Jones is urging Atlanta to up his current deal which was signed in 2015 and runs until the end of 2020. It’s a contract which is due to pay him more at the back end and only $10.5 million this season, something which is low for a receiver of his standard.

The average annual salary of his current contract is $14.25million which actually places Jones behind the likes of Antonio Brown, Mike Evans, DeAndre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, Jarvis Landry, A.J Green and Davante Adams.

Jones will not attend Atlanta’s OTAs on Monday and that shouldn’t be a worry but when you have your best offensive weapon staying away it’s not an ideal situation. For full context, though, NFL insider Ian Rapoport was on hand to clear up the situation with this promising update below.

“Julio Jones is one of those big names who is not expected to be present for the start of OTAs,” Rapoport told NFL.com. “He has not been there all off-season and has been training back at Alabama.

“First of all it’s not a really big deal to the Falcons. He didn’t spend a lot of time at OTAs last year. He was actually in China and he’s got a lot of things going on off the field. They love him as much as you could love a player. They are not really sweating it.

“But I am told Julio wants some sort of update or correction to his contract. This is something that the Falcons are amenable to.”

Basically don’t sweat it Atlanta fans as Rapoport explains. Jones wants to renegotiate his contract and get more money but it’s expected that this will be done during the summer.
