The waiting is almost over. In less than a week’s time, Liverpool will take on Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final.
This will be the Reds’ biggest match since their previous appearance in a Champions League final, back in 2007, when they lost 2-1 to AC Milan.
If Liverpool triumph they will celebrate their sixth European Cup and move above Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who have both won the prestigious competition five times. Only Milan (seven) and Real Madrid (12) have won it more.
However, Liverpool fans are acutely aware of the size of the task facing their team in Kiev.
Zinedine Zidane’s revered side is packed full of world-class players who know precisely what it takes to win this competition, having lifted the trophy in 2016 and 2017.
While the majority of English football fans will be hoping to see Liverpool beat the mighty Madrid at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium, it’s safe to assume that most Manchester United supporters are praying for a Los Blancos victory.
Gary Neville recently summed up the feelings of the Old Trafford faithful when he said after Manchester City won the Premier League title: "If Liverpool now win the European Cup and Chelsea beat United in the FA Cup final, to be honest I might go travelling for a year to somewhere where there’s no Wi-Fi or phone signal.”
Liverpool fans have found an embarrassing poster
Chelsea did beat United in Saturday’s FA Cup final, which means Liverpool can get rid of Neville for a year by beating their Spanish opponents next weekend.
With just days to go before the showpiece final, however, Liverpool fans have spotted a rather embarrassing poster that is quite clearly the handy work of a United supporter.
The poster features Ronaldo in his United shirt with the words ‘Scouse Busters’ and ‘Go Real’ over it.
Pretty embarrassing stuff, lads.
'How the mighty have fallen'
Liverpool fans reckon this poster simply shows how the mighty have fallen.
United, who reached the 2009 and 2011 Champions League finals, have undoubtedly declined since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford in 2013.
There’s no comparison between the often turgid football that United have served up under Jose Mourinho this season and Liverpool’s thrilling counter-attacking style of play under Jurgen Klopp.
United have ended the season empty-handed following their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Saturday and, as this poster proves, are now fearing the worst.
Cristiano Ronaldo is their only hope now.
