Aaron Ramsey will go down in history as the last Arsenal captain of Arsene Wenger's 22-year reign. Now in his tenth season at the Emirates Stadium, Ramsey slipped on the captain's armband as the Gunners saw out their season with a 1-0 win at Huddersfield Town. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal of the game as Wenger waved goodbye to supporters.Attentions now turn to the new manager and every member of the squad - including Ramsey - must be wondering how they will fit into their plans. With the likes of Massimiliano Allegri, Luis Enrique and Patrick Vieira all out of the running, it seems Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta will takeover at the club. And Ramsey's future role is particularly precarious with the Welshman's contract expiring at the end of next season.

Fears over Ramsey's contract

Reports have given mixed signals about the 27-year-old's future with a recent report from The Sun suggesting that Arsenal will sell Ramsey if he doesn't sign a new contract.

You can't blame them either after the January contract drama surrounding Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

It has certainly inspired debate amongst Arsenal fans if nothing else with one Gooner posting on Instagram that he was happy to hear the club had offered Ramsey a new contract after reading a transfer report.

Ramsey's agent contacts Arsenal fan

The user @chambers.ramsey penned: "@aaronramsey contract talks have finally opened! please get it done!"

What the supporter didn't expect, however, was Ramsey's very own agent to reply, writing back: "not quite, we are still waiting!"

Check out the exchange below:

Let's take a moment to appreciate this is the man freshly voted as Arsenal's Player of the Season.

It is certainly worrying that Ramsey's team are yet to hear anything from the club and even more so ahead of such a constricted summer.

Arsenal fans react on Twitter

It has sparked concerns amongst the fanbase, too, check out the reaction below:

There would almost certainly be interest from Premier League rivals if complications over a new contract continued and Ramsey would be free to speak to other clubs in January.

It's not promising when so many fans are raving about him and there are even calls for him to be instated as captain.

If nothing else, though, it has frustrated supporters that the club are once again allowing contract sagas to become a problem at the club.

Even if the Ramsey situation is resolved, they have an even more pressing Jack Wilshere episode to address.
