Despite Badou Jack arguably being the busier and more accurate fighter in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Saturday night, he was only able to leave the Air Canada Centre with a majority draw against Adonis Stevenson.

With the draw, Superman was able to retain his WBC light heavyweight title with the judges scoring the contest 115-113 in favour of Jack, while two judges scored the fight 114-114.

MAJORITY DRAW

The back and forth contest saw both men enjoy periods of success, with Stevenson being dragged into deep waters towards the end of the fight as Jack showed his resiliency after managing to come forward while eating some significant body shots.

With Stevenson in control of the contest, the momentum shifted immediately in the seventh round. A devastating combination from The Ripper forced Stevenson to go on the back foot as he looked more fatigued towards the end of the night.

So, it came as no surprise that many though Jack did enough to leave enemy territory with the win before a draw was announced, despite a sluggish start.

Speaking after the fight, Stevenson said: “I hurt him, and I thought I won the fight. I went to the body, and I saw that he was fatigued. Badou is a two-time world champion and a good fighter. I will give him a rematch.”

Jack, who already had two draws on his record, added: “I thought I definitely won the fight. No complaining, no judge had him winning. I can’t do anything about it. Let’s do a rematch, let’s do it in Las Vegas - I came to his backyard.”

JEALOUSY

Now, Jack has revealed his interesting theory on why the judges didn’t award him the win. He believes that as he is one of the top fighters of Mayweather Promotions, there could be jealousy of Floyd and they don’t like him.

According to Boxing Scene, he said: “I thought I definitely won the fight.

“No judge had him winning. I have no idea why I can’t get a decision. It could be that they’re jealous of Floyd and don’t like him. I’m one of his top fighters.

“I can’t do anything about it. I’m not the judge. I have to respect their decision.

“Maybe I started the fight too slow. I gave away those rounds. He didn’t really hit me. I can’t do anything about it, let’s do a rematch in Las Vegas. I came to his backyard; it’s time he comes out to Vegas.”

Claiming that the judges could be jealous of Mayweather is a bold statement to make, but in the heat of the moment after failing to turn another draw into a win can be taken into account.

With no clear winner, like the James DeGale bout, a rematch should be on the cards for Jack with Vegas a valid option.
