Roman Reigns should turn heel. That’s what the majority of WWE fans will say in response to the company trying to make The Big Dog the face of the company.

Despite the borderline toxic reactions he receives on a weekly basis, it doesn’t look like the WWE is going to be deterred in its long-term plan to get the fans embracing the former Shield member.

HEEL TURN

While he might be engaged in a feud with Jinder Mahal, it still looks like Reigns could get the nod to challenge Brock Lesnar yet again for the Universal Championship. A heel turn might extend the company’s vision and plans, but the end result could remain the same if the fans can naturally get behind him.

You could argue that Reigns was at the height of his popularity when he was part of The Shield when he, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose caused havoc after moving up from NXT.

Perhaps this is why the WWE decided to have The Shield reunite last year - but it’s clear it didn’t go down as the company would have hoped with the likes of Kurt Angle and Triple H donning the tactical vest when The Big Dog was unable to compete.

However, Reigns is interested in a Shield reunion, but not how you might think.

During the WWE’s European tour this week, media outlets were able to catch up with Reigns. When speaking to GiveMeSport’s Alex McCarthy, Reigns revealed that the perfect story is there to be told to create a Samoan Shield with The Usos - his real-life cousins - when asked about following their route and turning heel.

SAMOAN SHIELD

In excerpts throughout the interview, he said: “I’ve been around my cousins a long time. And for a while, we’ve been waiting for that. And I’ve had a lot of talks with them, and they’ve used a lot of this material, but they were tired of being underappreciated. They were tired of having that lack of respect, they were just tired of a bunch of different **** essentially, you know what I mean?

“When it came down to it, they were just tired, they were ready for a change, they wanted more responsibility they wanted a bigger role, everything that comes with it. The thing that makes them so special is each other.”

Reigns also went on to claim that the only stars that can compete with him on the microphone are John Cena along with The Usos, before admitting that the story is straightforward for the WWE to tell where down the line, they can form the Samoan Shield.

He added: “That was their way, I gotta do things my way, over time you’ll slowly see continuous evolution and continuous growth. But If I had a hype man to help me out in every other line I said, that would be really nice. I’m super proud of them; I know their dad is and all our family is.

“And I’m excited not only to see where they go but also where I go. You never know, the story is there, it's easy. We all represent the same bloodline, we all represent the same family, so it would be pretty cool maybe one day if...if there was a Samoan Shield.”

We’ve seen that a heel turn can work wonders, and The Usos are a prime example of that.

While fans wouldn’t want anything to compromise the original Shield line-up, seeing Reigns and The Usos join forces could make for some compelling storytelling.
