It's been a big week for Atletico Madrid. After sealing second place in La Liga ahead of bitter city rivals Real Madrid, Diego Simeone's side went to Lyon on Wednesday and defeated Marseille 3-0 in the Europa League final. Then on Sunday, the club and fans had the chance to bid farewell to a true legend of the club, Fernando Torres.Wednesday's victory was Torres' first trophy with Atleti and Simeone handed him a start vs Eibar in his final game at the Wanda Metropolitano. And Torres delivered, scoring two goals to turn the game on it's head after Kike Garcia had given the visitors the lead - Ruben Pena equalised in the 70th minute, with the game ending 2-2.However, a game that was supposed to be a joyous celebration turned a little bit sour in the second half.Antoine Griezmann - who scored two goals in Lyon - was brought on for Koke on 59 minutes and the Frenchman proceeded to be whistled and booed by his own fans every time he touched the ball. It's well-known that he is close to a big-money move to Barcelona, with the Spanish press on Sunday stating that the transfer is essentially a formality. Those reports may have prompted Atleti fans, but football Twitter was not happy with the reception handed to Griezmann.

FANS REACT

They have a point. Griezmann's loyalty last season cannot be understated and it's only natural that he would want a move to Barca to have more of a chance of winning La Liga in the near future.

And in a bizarre twist at the Wanda, Spanish sources on Twitter reported that Atleti's Diego Godin actually approached the fans to tell them to stop whistling Griezmann, with the Frenchman supposedly in tears.

The tweet translated reads: "Godín approached one of the funds of the Metropolitan Wanda to ask the fans to stop whistling Griezmann. The striker was having a hard time. The audience reacted with an ovation for the French."

Fair play to Godin. Another source even posted that the Uruguayan told the fans "he's staying" when he was reasoning with them.

Mundo Deportivo confirmed after the match that Godin had indeed fought in his teammates corner, with Gabi also helping his cause.

The game that was supposed to be all about Torres ended up centring on Griezmann.

Godin's actions should certainly be praised, while Atleti fans certainly shouldn't be proud of upsetting a player who should go down as one of their greatest ever.
