Alexis Sanchez has struggled since his January move from Arsenal to Manchester United.

The Chilean forward - who scored 24 Premier League goals last season - has managed just three goals in 18 appearances since swapping clubs with Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Sanchez, 29, played the full 90 minutes in Saturday's disappointing 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

He was completely ineffective against the Chelsea backline and Man United legend Paul Scholes singled him out for criticism.

"His performances, well they have to improve," Scholes told BT Sport. "They can't get any worse to be honest with you.

There weren't many Man United fans disagreeing with Scholesy.

Jose Mourinho has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal but he's been unable to get the best out of them.

Sanchez explains poor form

The former Arsenal star is getting his first summer off since 2013 after Chile failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Sanchez has attempted to explain his below-par performances and offered two reasons why it hasn't worked out thus far.

He needs to turn his form round quickly next season because Mourinho is not the most patient of managers.

Sanchez said, as per the Guardian: “I think that in every game I’ve played in I’ve maybe found it hard to adapt to the style of play and I’ve been getting to know my team-mates.”

He's the highest earner at the club and his excuses are unlikely to buy him much sympathy from the United supporters.

Sanchez continued: “I also had some great players alongside me at Barcelona, some highly experienced guys who had great quality.

"I think that United are not too dissimilar as a club to them in their size and stature.

"However, we still have areas where we can improve, and we can do this day-to-day and a game-to-game basis. I believe we need to improve in all aspects.”

Former Man United defender Paul Parker agreed that United's style of play isn't suiting Sanchez.

“Things haven’t materialised I think in the way I think maybe everyone expected it to,” he said on talkSPORT. “But then he hasn’t played or isn’t playing in the same way or style that he played at Arsenal.

“Arsenal played in a way and it suited him.

“I don’t think anybody covers as much grass as him anywhere in the Premier League. The man is incredible at what he does and he keeps going and going – you make a mistake and he never goes missing, he will go and keep doing what he wants to do.

“But obviously the style isn’t suiting him.

"For what he cost and everything that goes with it, we know at the moment he hasn’t reached the levels anywhere near to what he was at Arsenal.”
