For all the talk surrounding Anthony Joshua's potential all-or-nothing bout with Deontay Wilder, it's very easy to forget that their respective camps haven't yet come to an agreement.

The main sticking point is seemingly the venue, with AJ desperate to repay his fans by staging the event in the UK.

Wilder, on the other hand, would prefer to fight in America and even offered $50million - apparently - to make it happen.

All the while, Eddie Hearn is busy ensuring that Joshua has another heavyweight to challenge him if the WBC champion doesn't sign the deal.

The man in question is Alexander Povetkin, who beat David Price with a devastating knockout on the undercard of Joshua's points victory over Joseph Parker.

With the Russian now the WBA's mandatory challenger, Hearn met with his manager Vadim Kornilov on May 14, but only now has it emerged how those talks actually went.

"The meeting with Eddie Hearn went great," Kornilov told World Boxing News.

"We are still ongoing in our negotiations for Alexander Povetkin to fight Anthony Joshua in September.

"The site and country is to be finalized soon but I am hoping we can get an understanding by the end of the month."

Povetkin could be next

So, the prospect of a Joshua-Povetkin meeting taking place in the autumn certainly suggests that Wilder is off the cards for now, though presumably not for good.

When pushed on the matter further, Povetkin's manager added:

"I think that Joshua is willing to fight Povetkin, Wilder, or anybody. We just don't know whether Wilder is willing to fight anybody.

"What I do know is that Alexander will fight for the world title next. It doesn't matter who it is, but Team Povetkin wants to fight for the world title and we are confident it will happen.

Joshua needs to accept Povetkin's challenge to be sure of keeping his belts, unless for some reason the veteran boxer's team would be willing to let him face Wilder first - in which case, some fans are going to start losing patience for the fight everyone wants to see.
