Liverpool's 2018 summer transfer window is set to be a defining one.

After a season of serious progress under Jurgen Klopp and Champions League football already secured for 2018/19, the Reds need to add some more firepower in order to make the next step.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have been amazing all year, but the lack of depth up front has cost Liverpool at times.

To put it simply, Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings are not good enough for Klopp's Liverpool.

As such, the biggest name being linked with the club so far has been Lyon's Nabil Fekir, with the Frenchman enjoying an unbelievable Ligue 1 season, scoring 18 goals and notching eight assists in 30 appearances.

After Lyon's final game of the season - a 3-2 win over Nice - it was thought that it would be Fekir's last for the club, with Liverpool said to be looking at opening negotiations after the Champions League final.

However, Lyon's president Jean-Michel Aulas has come out and put to bed rumours of a deal with Liverpool being nearly complete - or even the notion of entering into negotiations.

This is the first time a prominent figure from the French club has spoke so positively about Fekir's future at the club.

“There has been no contact with Liverpool or any other club so we haven’t discussed the future," he said.

"I know that Nabil, now that we have qualified for the Champions’ League, would really like to stay, so we will discuss things calmly.

"He has magnificently won the right to go to Russia with France, which gives him an even higher standing. For the moment, nothing is done. You will have to be very, very rich to sign Nabil Fékir this year.”

Some will say the president of a football club has to say that, it's still a pretty big update.

Although, the promise of Champions League football and staying in his homeland will surely appeal to Fekir just as much as Liverpool, where he would likely spend more time on the bench.
