England's World Cup campaign kicks off in just under a month. The Three Lions open their group campaign against Tunisia on June 18, before meeting Panama six days later and finishing off against Belgium on the 28th - a game which should be a shootout for top spot.Gareth Southgate's 23-man squad for the tournament in Russia didn't spring too many surprises, with the absences of Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere the only things really sparking much debate among fans. However, the topic of England's captain for the tournament was certainly a debated topic, with Southgate having four realistic choices for the armband.Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson, Eric Dier and Gary Cahill were the quartet in question and the boss has finally made his decision. And it's Kane who has come out on top, with Tottenham's talisman having previously captained his country for the first time vs Slovenia back in October. It's a bold decision, with Kane not yet the captain of Spurs on a permanent basis - Hugo Lloris is still Mauricio Pochettino's man in north London. And England fans are slightly concerned that Kane's been given the nod, particularly with Henderson captaining Liverpool to a Champions League final this season.

ENGLAND FANS REACT

There is of course a school of thought from some fans that Henderson is not a guaranteed starter unlike Kane, but after his performances with Liverpool of late, it would be a big surprise if he was omitted from the starting XI.

After the announcement, Southgate explained why he had named Kane captain, saying: “Harry has some outstanding personal qualities. He is a meticulous professional and one of the most important things for a captain is that they set the standard every day.

“He has belief and high standards and it is a great message for the team to have a captain who has shown that it is possible to be one of the best in the world over a consistent period of time and that has been his drive.

“My feeling is that over the last 18 months in the camps that he's been with us he has shown that he has got the desire to take that into a team environment and he recognises the importance of bringing others with him

“Of course, Harry will need the support of the other good leaders that we have got around him. You don't become a top team by just having a good captain with good values because that has got to spread right throughout the group but I think he is the one who is ready to take that challenge on.”

No pressure, Harry.
