Despite not being in the WWE anymore, credit has to go to Cody Rhodes for what he’s been able to achieve on the independent scene since his departure.

He’s done excellent work for promotions such as Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, but his contributions alongside The Young Bucks has seen the All In event become a reality, with 10,000 tickets selling almost instantly for their super show in September.

ALL IN

Fittingly given the tagline ‘The Biggest Independent Wrestling Show Ever,’ it comes as no surprise that some huge names have been confirmed for the event such as Kenny Omega, Kazuchika Okada, Rey Mysterio and so many more.

However, it’s the potential appearance of one former WWE superstar that has many excited - especially since the event is taking place in Chicago.

Although there still aren't any details of the event being televised, his potential appearance still has fans buzzing.

Ever since the venue was confirmed, there had been ramblings that CM Punk would be making a special appearance which would mark his return to professional wrestling. By the time this event takes place, CM Punk will have either picked up his first win in the UFC, or a second consecutive loss as he prepares to battle Mike Jackson at UFC 225 - also taking place in Chicago.

Jenn Sterger, who was hosting the conference, let it slip during an interview on the Collider Bodyslam podcast that the former WWE Champion was apparently backstage during the press conference, suggesting that he could make his wrestling return at the event.

PUNK RETURN?

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, she said: “If you got your tickets at face value for this event, I’m just saying it literally might be the best in the world.

“I will only say someone wearing sweatpants and training for something walked into the back of the building that the press conference was in - with marks, mind you, lining the entire sidewalks in the front of the building and I kept thinking, ‘If they knew you were back here, they would literally tear down the front of the store.’”

There is a signing set to take place before the event, and the fact that Punk is originally from Chicago has Sterger believing that it makes perfect sense for the former WWE star to be there.

She added: “What better way - if you were going to make your return to wrestling - than the biggest indie show ever?”

While he might have been at the Pro Wrestling Tees store to merely pick up t-shirts, everything does seem to be falling into place which suggests we could see Punk back in a wrestling ring sooner rather than later.
