What Emre Can did to Virgil van Dijk in training ahead of CL final was just stupid

Despite rumours of him leaving for Juventus this summer, Emre Can could be in line to feature for Liverpool in this weekend's Champions League final.

Can has been out since mid-March with a back injury but he's returned to training recently and Jurgen Klopp claims he's making progress.

When asked on Monday whether the German will be in his squad for the final, Klopp replied: "It depends.

"With Emre or players in the situation of Emre it depends on the reaction on things [but] let me say it like this: 10 days ago, I didn’t think it was possible that he could do what he did today.

"That looked good and my impression of him is really positive, but we have to wait again until tomorrow.

"But the door, of course, is open. It's really nice to have him back in the group and he is really desperate to be part of [the final] and we will see."

Can will need to make a big impression in training to have any hope of starting against Real Madrid, with Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijanldum the most likely midfield three.

CAN'S LIVERPOOL SWANSONG

And that's exactly what he's been trying to do - although he may have gone a bit too mad during Monday's session in front of the media.

Journalists present at Anfield got to see the players in action and something the Mirror's David Maddock noticed about Can was a bit concerning.

In the tweet below, Maddock explains how at one point the Germany international lunged into a scissor challenge on Virgil van Dijk, describing it as "robust".

Just imagine if Can had injured Van Dijk. Going in hard on your teammates isn't exactly ideal before a Champions League final which is why Liverpool fans aren't too happy.

Kopites are slamming Can for being so reckless in such an important week, especially on one of the most important players.

Reports claim Can is on the verge of joining Juventus on a five-year deal in what would come as a huge blow to Liverpool.

But Klopp claims he isn't even thinking about the 24-year-old's future at the moment ahead of one of the biggest nights in the club's history.

"No clue," said the German when asked about Can's future. "It's not important at the moment, to be honest.

"At this moment he is 100 per cent here. That's the only thing I'm interested in. I really have no idea, but that's not important to me at the moment."
