Liverpool may have been enjoying the sun in Marbella last week but it’s now time to get serious ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final.
Upon their return to England, there’s simply no time for sunbathing and bike rides as they prepare for the clash against Real Madrid in Kiev.
On Monday, they held an open training session at Anfield to give fans and the media a chance to check on their preparations.
While it was only a light session, there was one big talking point from the session - the attendance of Emre Can.
The German midfielder hasn’t played since mid-March due to a back injury and it looked as though he’d be ruled out for the rest of the season.
However, many Liverpool fans are convinced that Can’s injury is genuine.
His contract at Anfield will expire in the summer and it’s looking more and more likely that he’ll join Juventus after the final.
So when they saw him training in the build-up to Saturday's big clash, many Liverpool fans weren’t happy.
You can certainly understand why they don’t want a player that has played little part in them reaching the final coming back into the side before leaving the club on a free transfer.
JOHN ALDRIDGE ON EMRE CAN
And Liverpool legend John Aldridge has summed up their feelings perfectly.
“I’m not sure I want Emre Can in the squad for the Champions League final on Saturday because his heart isn’t at Liverpool,” Aldridge wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.
“A lot of fans wouldn’t want Can on the bench. The club has had a custard pie from him and his agent. He’s been part of the journey to this final but he certainly doesn’t deserve to start against Real Madrid.
“Why does he want to leave? Money. Is the Italian league better? No. Juventus are a huge club but Liverpool have won the Champions League more times than them.”
We think Aldridge has just spoken on behalf of every Liverpool fan…
