Mark Lawrenson's combined Liverpool & Real Madrid XI is just hilariously biased

The biggest game on the footballing calendar is only a few days away.

Liverpool and Real Madrid travel to Kiev in to take part in the Champions League final, a game that on paper looks like it could be one of the best ever.

Both sides thrive on playing attacking football, with a lot of the focus pre-match centring on the two superstars of the moment; Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah.

The two have been absolute goal machines in the competition, with Ronaldo notching an incredible 15 and Salah adding 10.

If you were to pick a combined XI of the two European giants, those two would be the first names every single time right now.

There are quite a few others who would almost certainly make the cut, but former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has decided to throw a spanner in the works with his combined XI for the final.

Writing for Paddy Power, the regular Match of the Day pundit opted for five Liverpool players in his team and one of them really does seem a tad bizarre.

Yes, that is Jordan Henderson in the heart of midfield alongside Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

Here's Lawro's reasoning for his choice: "Of the last spot you could go for Isco, Milner, Wijnaldum, but I’d have Henderson there and put him covering the two centre-backs with Modric and Kroos ahead of him.

"The two full-backs would bomb forward, and I’d have Jordan fill the holes and be in position to cover any gaps.

"He’s an extremely good athlete. Any questions about his range of passing won’t really matter if he’s alongside Modric and Kroos."

Yeah, nice one mate, aside from the fact that he's clearly forgetting one man that simply has to be in the side; Casemiro.

As per Squawka, the Brazilian has won 15 more tackles than any other player in the Champions League this season and is widely-recognised as one of the best holding midfield players in the world.

Well, not in Lawrenson's books, although his knowledge outside of anything bar Liverpool can be summed up by his spelling of Dani Carvajal in his article. 'Danny', ouch.

Now, Henderson has been brilliant at times this season for Liverpool, but to put him ahead of Casemiro is a little bit ridiculous. We're pretty sure Real wouldn't choose to swap the pair.
