Ben Simmons and Donovan Mitchell's fierce battle for rookie of the year honours will be set aside for just a moment as the pair of dynamic guards led the way in the NBA's All-Rookie teams announcement. The pair were unanimously selected to the All-Rookie first team after getting first-place votes on all 100 ballots from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters from around the world.Celtics forward Jayson Tatum almost joined the Sixers and Jazz standouts as unanimous selections after receiving 99 first-place votes. The first team was rounded out by Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma and Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen who received 93 and 76 first-place votes respectively. Those earning All-Rookie Second Team honours were Lakers guard Lonzo Ball, Sacramento Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic, Hawks center John Collins, Suns forward Josh Jackson and dynamic Mavericks guard Dennis Smith Jr.One of the best rookie classes in recent memory will finally be given rookie of the year winner at the NBA Awards on June 25. Simmons and Mitchell are the clear favourites for the award, with Tatum rounding out the three nominees. Had it been an award taking in consideration play extending through the playoffs though, Tatum may just have pipped it given the Celtics' success on the back of his six games leading the team in scoring this postseason. Nevertheless, the sometimes bitter rivalry between Mitchell and Simmons for the award will finally get a resolution. Mitchell for one, seemed delighted with his nod on the first team though, summing up his 'crazy' year with a post on Twitter.

The Jazz rookie had an astounding debut season in Utah, compiling 20.5 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 3.7 while becoming the first rookie to lead a 45-plus-win team in scoring since the Spurs’ David Robinson in 1990. Mitchell won the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month four times and also set the NBA rookie record for three-pointers made with 187.

Opposing him, Simmons dazzled all year with his unique style, length and incredible passing skills.

The Sixers star posted 15.8 points 8.2 assists and 8.1 boards per contest to help his team to the third best record in the East.  Simmons had the third most triple-doubles in the league (12) only trailing a pair of MVP's in LeBron James and Russell Westbrook and led all rookies in assists, rebounds and steals in 2017-18.

He also joined Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson as the only rookies in league history to average at least 15.0 points, 8.0 assists and 8.0 rebounds per game.

The future looks bright with this staple of standout rookies and a few years down the road the class could well be one we look back on with similar fondness to the much vaunted class of 2003.
