Manchester United finally said goodbye to the last remaining player from their 2008 Champions League winning side on the last day of the season.

After 12 years of loyal and quality service, Michael Carrick is hanging up his boots to move into a coaching role with the Red Devils.

The Englishman will go down as a legend among United fans, but was criminally underrated by the majority of supporters across the world.

Without Carrick, Sir Alex Ferguson's final few title-winning teams would have been nowhere near as effective.

Despite barely playing under Jose Mourinho during 2017/18, the United boss knows he has to find a replacement for him.

There have already been a few big names linked with the position in the form of Shakhtar Donetsk's Fred and Napoli's Jorginho.

But, what about Yaya Toure? Surely not, right?

Well, the Ivorian is finally departing Manchester City this summer and in an interview with Manchester Evening News, he was asked about the possibility of switching allegiances.

His quotes were pretty intriguing...

“Yeah he just left,” Toure says when asked about Carrick. “Let’s see, let’s see.”

The interviewer then says: "Seriously?"

“I don’t rule big teams out. The big teams are very important for me. What they want to achieve, the way they want to go, for me is very important.

“I want to go somewhere I can win and achieve. It’s going to be hard one day to play against City, but I have to do that. It is part of my job.

“I’ve been playing football for such a long time, I’m no good in the office or something else. I am good in football.

“To see myself at a different club is going to be difficult. I have been such a big part of City for such a long time now. I just want to say that definitely I will continue to play at a high level - Champions League or Europa League.

“I want to play two more years. They have to be in the higher level and then I can do something else.”

Toure then goes on to reveal his adoration for Paul Pogba.

“I love Paul Pogba,” he says. “I love Kevin (de Bruyne) as well and I love (David) Silva. Silva was my player.

“Pogba is the same size, power [as me] - but different in the way he wants to go. Technically as well, the ability to score goals as well. It is a player I want to play with, to be honest, just to teach him some things.”

Sounds like he wouldn't mind a move to United, right? Well, towards the end of the interview, Toure then says: “No, no, no, no. The fans are going to kill me!”

It seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened in football...
