Liverpool midfielder wants to leave

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano is ready to force a move to Inter Milan in order to link up with former manager Rafael Benitez, according to reports.

Mascherano has been linked with the European Champions ever since the World Cup finished and now it looks as though the move could be about to happen.

The Argentina captain was thought to have flown representatives out to Italy in order to hold informal discussions with the Milan hierarchy.

He has reportedly been learning Italian ever since he found out Benitez was taking over at the San Siro and could add to Inter’s already large Argentine contingent.

Roy Hodgson has made no secret of his desire to keep Mascherano and, according to the Daily Mail, has put a £30 million asking price on his head.

This may be the one sticking point over the transfer as Inter are unwilling to go above £20 million for the midfielder.

However, players like Sulley Muntari or Esteban Cambiasso could be used in a swap deal, which could be tempting for Liverpool.

The Anfield side’s finances are not allowing to bring in players of the quality the require, despite bringing Joe Cole in this week, and £20 million would go a long way in Roy Hodgson’s hands.
