What Leicester Tigers have told giant flanker to do for next season will terrify his opponents

Leicester Tigers endured somewhat of a torrid season as they struggled to make any considerable impact on the AVIVA Premiership title race.

The Tigers ended the season well off the pace in fifth, failing to even secure a spot in the play-offs with a late surge unable to rectify the early season damage.

Despite boasting the likes of Ben Youngs, George Ford and Jonny May in the squad, the Tigers struggled for consistency and ultimately paid the price as they were left to sign off on a rather mediocre season.

Head coach Matt O’Connor will already be building towards next season and will be desperate to improve upon that fifth place finish.

With that in mind, it seems that his playing staff have already been given their briefs with regards as to what is expected of them during the break.

However, for monster back row forward Valentino Mapapalangi, what he has been told to is a little bit strange.

At 6'4 and 109 kilograms, the Tongan is a giant of a man and so it was understandably a bit baffling for him to be told by the Tigers hierarchy to “put on a bit of size”.

“They want me to put size on. That won’t be too hard to do, especially going with Tonga,” he told Leicester’s official youtube account.

“We’ve got touring and Fiji, so that shouldn’t be too hard to make. There’s a lot of food in Fiji, that’ll be an easy target to make!”

Mapapalangi is already a powerful runner with the ball but its seems Leicester want to create something completely unstoppable.

The task of bringing down a 109 kg juggernaut is hard enough as it is, but if he were to add to that immense size, many an opponent might consider simply waving him through.

“They want me to eat good food and put on good weight, not fat,” the flanker continued.

Didn’t know it was possible to put on such a thing as ‘good weight’, but if the Tongan manages to do so, he really will take some stopping.
