This year, wherever Max Verstappen has gone, controversy has followed closely behind.
The 20-year-old hasn’t made a lot of friends in 2018 with his reckless and irresponsible driving style but there is no denying that his approach can be extremely effective when he gets it right.
The Belgian flyer claimed his first podium of the season when he finished third at the Spanish Grand Prix this last weekend as Red Bull begin to get into the swing of things.
With the disaster of Azerbaijan behind them, Verstappen and teammate Daniel Ricciardo have been rapid, threatening the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes more and more.
Red Bull lie in third on the Contructors standings, and after the first practice session for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, will be supremely confident of narrowing that gap to the top.
The Red Bulls finished first and second fastest after the first practice session on the famous streets of the principality and continued to dominate the second session later in the day.
Verstappen claims Red Bulls ‘havent hit the limit’
Verstappen’s comments in the aftermath of the first session will undoubtedly have the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel worried with the Belgian claiming that Red Bull still have more to offer this weekend.
“Today went well from the start and it was a positive start,” Verstappen told his official fan site “We haven’t been on the limit yet, but we were still fast.
“There is still margin to improve,” he added. “I’ve got the right feeling in the car.
“Our car has a lot of grip and is easy to drive,” he continued. “That’s really important on a street circuit like Monaco. I’m happy with that.
“We didn’t have any set-up issues,” he pointed out. “Thursday was a good day. Hopefully we can maintain this on Saturday.”
With Hamilton and Vettel battling it out for supremacy at the top, Red Bull might just spy an opportunity to sneak into the reckoning for the big prizes.
There is a long way to go in the 2018 season and Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix could be the beginning of something special for the Red Bull boys.
