Unai Emery will already have an idea of what he wants to do in the transfer window as he begins life as Arsenal’s manager. The Spaniard, who was announced as Arsene Wenger’s replacement on Wednesday, will reportedly be given just £50 million, which pales in comparison to the figures available to him at Paris Saint-Germain.Arsenal need bolstering in various positions, particularly in defence, and Emery and Sven Mislintat, the club’s head of recruitment, will come together to identify which players to try and bring in.Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri is a target, according to Sky Sports, and the Ligue 1 club will sell if they receive an offer of £35m or above.A new midfielder is required following Santi Cazorla’s departure and Seri, who came close to joining Barcelona last summer, would make for a fine addition. There are a number of players whose futures appear uncertain, including Jack Wilshere.Wilshere’s contract expires at the end of June and it’s still unclear whether he will sign a new deal to stay in north London.

Emery's plans

Emery refused to speak about any individual player at his introductory press conference on Wednesday but according to the Mirror, he already knows what he’s prepared to do with his squad.

The 46-year-old has carried out a full evaluation of the current roster and is ready to give every single player a fresh start.

This isn’t just important for Wilshere but for the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, who looked set to leave, and Sead Kolasinac, who fell out of favour in his debut season at the club.

Arsenal’s hierarchy were reportedly impressed by Emery’s attitude towards his new players. Instead of ushering any of them out, he believes some will benefit from a fresh start and is ready to give them a chance.

The former Sevilla and PSG boss won’t have a great amount of time to assess his players, though.

Following the World Cup, Arsenal will play in the International Champions Cup in Asia and Europe.

The Gunners will take on Atletico Madrid on July 26 at the Singapore National Stadium and PSG in the same stadium two days later.

Their third game in the competition is against Premier League rivals Chelsea in Solna, Sweden on August 4.

Given the quality of their opponents, it’s a great opportunity for Emery to gain a greater understanding of his players.
