There has been a massive update in Liverpool's pursuit of Nabil Fekir

It's an exciting time to be a Liverpool fan.

The club have a golden opportunity to add to their five European Cup titles when they take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday.

But even if they emerge on the wrong end of the result, the club's fans still have a lot to be optimistic about next season.

In Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, they boast one of the, if not the most lethal attacks in football.

And they will only get better with the summer arrival of Naby Keita.

Jurgen Klopp has turned Liverpool back into perennial Champions League qualifiers.

That means they can now attract some of the world's best names to Anfield once again.

One name they have been linked with in recent weeks has been Nabil Fekir, Lyon's attacking midfielder.

Liverpool have been linked with making a bid for the French international, although it was unclear whether the Reds were actually interested.

But there has now been a massive update in Liverpool's pursuit of Fekir.

The Telegraph report that Liverpool will step up the pursuit of the Frenchman after Saturday's final in Kiev, with negotiations set to speed up from next week on an expected £60 million deal.

Lyon's president said just earlier this week that it will take a ''very, very rich" club to sign Fekir, although Liverpool are confident in their pursuit of the 24-year-old.

There has been a shift in momentum over the past 24 hours and the club are hopeful a deal can be done.

And the Merseyside outfit think that the signing of Fekir would do a lot in helping bridge the gap to Man City in the Premier League.

Exciting times for Liverpool fans.

Liverpool lost Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in January and never had the opportunity to replace him.

But it seems Klopp has found the player that he wants to replace the Brazilian maestro - and it's becoming increasingly likely that he will get his man.

But Fekir is not just an attacking midfielder.

He can also operate on either wing, meaning Liverpool will be getting the cover they need in case Mane, Firmino or Salah get injured.

At 24 years old, Fekir also has many years to develop before he reaches his peak.

If Liverpool do manage to get a deal over the line for Fekir, it will make a big statement in their hunt of winning their first Premier League title.
