Alvaro Morata was, by all accounts, very much Antonio Conte’s second-choice replacement for Diego Costa last summer.

The Chelsea boss hoped to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge from Everton but the Belgian opted to sign for Manchester United instead.

Conte, who had no desire to bring Costa back into the fold following their bust-up months earlier, subsequently agreed to spend a club-record £60 million fee on Morata.

The Spain international had scored more goals for Real Madrid than Karim Benzema last season, despite starting far fewer games, and it looked a shrewd signing on paper.

Morata, who was just 24 when he signed for the Blues, appeared to have all the tools required to be a huge hit in the Premier League.

However, his first season in England has been largely underwhelming.

In 48 games, Morata has managed to find the net just 15 times. Eleven Premier League goals in 31 appearances is a poor return for a striker who cost so much money.

Chelsea fan's 22-tweet thread on Morata goes viral

Some Chelsea fans have already written him off after his first season. They’ve seen little to convince them the Spaniard has what it takes to become the club’s new Costa or Didier Drogba.

One Chelsea supporter has even created a 22-tweet thread on Twitter showing Morata’s worst misses from his debut season - and it’s truly damning.

The thread has gone viral and when you watch the missed chances back, you’ll understand why.

After watching all those misses, it’s fair to say that he’s got a point.
