Naoya Inoue is the new WBA world bantamweight champion after stopping Jamie McDonnell in brutal fashion.

There were still 68 seconds of the first round left when the 25-year-old was declared the winner, reducing the British champion to tears as he vacated his belt.

This was McDonnell's first loss in a decade, when he last tasted defeat against Lee Haskins.

However, the focus is quite rightly now on Inoue, who proved he isn't called 'The Monster' for nothing.

The Japanese fighter maintained his unbeaten record, which now stands at 16-0 with 13 knockouts, in front of a home crowd who easily got their money's worth despite the bout being over so quickly.

McDonnell was knocked down twice before the referee ultimately had to intervene in the aftermath of an Inoue left hook and uppercut that left the Englishman visibly struggling.

Make no mistake, as disappointing as the fight will have been for the 32-year-old, he found himself on the end of a boxing masterclass from his opponent.

Take a look at Inoue's speed, power, and combos below:

He has now won world titles at three different weights.

While Inoue wasn't the underdog, he must have been concerned that his inferior height would prove too much of a disadvantage, as he stands at 5"5, a whole five inches shorter than McDonnell.

McDonnell's trainer Dave Coldwell had warned that his fighter was going to get the "respect he deserves". Yes, he deserves plaudits for hanging in there, but it was really no contest.

"He has been in with some top fighters and he is still not spoken about in the top British fighters.

"He wants a fight where everyone says he will be smashed as that gives him that motivation. He knows if he pulls this off it's one of the greatest wins abroad ever."

That proved not to be the case and it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
