The Championship play-off final is always an entertaining match.

It is viewed as the richest match in football, with this season’s edition worth approximately £170 million to the winners.

That figure rises to £280m if the winners survive just one season in the Premier League, according to BBC Sport.

On Saturday the battle to reach the top flight was between Aston Villa and Fulham.

Fulham recovered from a 1-0 defeat to Derby County in the first leg of their play-off semi-final, winning the return match 2-0 to reach the final.

Steve Bruce’s Villa, meanwhile, overcame Middlesbrough 1-0 across 180 minutes of action.

Fulham finished third in the Championship and Villa one spot below, so there’s a feeling that the two clubs deserved to meet at Wembley Stadium.

Fulham prevailed, recording a 1-0 win that means they will be in the Premier League next season.

The Cottagers had to play the final 20 minutes with 10 men following Denis Odoi's red card but they held on.

Fulham took the lead in the 23rd minute when Tom Cairney finished from Ryan Sessegnon’s superb assist.

The 18-year-old, who has caught the eye of many Premier League clubs this season, played a superb, inch-perfect pass into Cairney’s path and the midfielder tucked the ball away.

Sessegnon scored and provided an assist in the 2-0 win over Derby and football fans are in agreement that he should have been included in England’s squad for the World Cup.

Indeed, it’s hard to argue with them.

Sessegnon may be young, and without an England senior appearance to his name, but he is playing some phenomenal football right now.

Gareth Southgate didn’t include him in his 23-man squad but it can’t be long before the Fulham youngster gets an opportunity.

Earlier this month, Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic suggested that Sessegnon, who has played for England's Under-21 side, is ready to make the jump to the senior team.

"He has a really bright future in front of him, not only for Fulham but probably for England in the future or even immediately," Jokanovic said.

"He's shown many times that he is a great lad, great footballer and great worker. We trust he'll be at his best level."
