It was Real Madrid's night in the Champions League final.

After all the anticipation and build-up, the action finally got underway at Kiev's Olympic Stadium last night as Liverpool missed out on their sixth European crown.

The Reds had started the game the much better side, pressing Real in the early exchanges but received an early blow when Mohamed Salah was taken off with an injury.

Felled in a tumble with Sergio Ramos, the Egyptian may have dislocated his shoulder and could miss the World Cup this summer.

Los Blancos eventually made the breakthrough with Karim Benzema capitalising on Loris Karius' error, only for Sadio Mane to level the scores.

Quiet night for Ronaldo

However, a brace from Gareth Bale off the bench - one of sheer quality and one of unbridled fortune - secured the Spaniard's fourth Champions League title in five years.

In the end, the game billed to be Salah vs Cristiano Ronaldo didn't revolve around either player aside from early injury heartbreak.

Ronaldo's shock interview

In fact, perhaps the most talked about Ronaldo moment actually came after the game when the five-time Ballon d'Or winner gave an interview that no one saw coming.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS on the pitch, Ronaldo stated regarding his future: “Now it's time to enjoy this. In the next few days I'll give the fans, who have been by my side, an answer.

"It's been great being at Real Madrid.

“I'll speak in the next few days. Now it's time to enjoy the moment. The future of any player isn't important. We've made history.”

Come again, Cristiano?

The comment was so unexpected that it even provoked reaction from other Real Madrid players in the aftermath of the game, and Ramos gave a particularly impassioned response.

The Real captain urged Ronaldo to clarify the situation as soon as possible.

Ramos demands answers

Per Marca, he stated: "If there is something there, he must clarify it today. He is a key piece for us. He could not be in a better place."

That's not to mention a concerned Benzema remarking: "He stays with us, we need Cristiano."

Is Ronaldo going to leave or is he just teasing?

The Portuguese certainly hinted at a departure last summer, so it wouldn't be surprising if there was substance behind this comment, even if the timing is a little strange.

The 33-year-old is still under contract at the Bernabeu but only time will tell.
