Loris Karius took full responsibility for his role in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in a heartfelt interview. The German goalkeeper made two awful mistakes, gifting goals to Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale, as Real Madrid won the Champions League for a third straight year.“I don’t feel anything right now. Today I lost my team the game,” Karius told talkSPORT.“I feel sorry for everyone. I’m sorry for everyone, for the team, for the whole club. The mistakes cost us dearly.“If I could go back in time I would.“I just feel sorry for my team. I know I let them down today."Jordan Henderson refused to blame Karius while Jurgen Klopp offered his sympathies to the 24-year-old.

Barton causes a stir

But Karius has pretty much ensured a new goalkeeper will arrive at Anfield in the summer.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson, although the Italian club’s director of football, Monchi, has insisted the Brazilian won’t be sold.

Joey Barton has an alternative option - Gianluigi Buffon.

Taking to Twitter after Karius’ performance, Barton said the Reds need to give the Juventus ‘keeper, 40, a phone call straight away.

“If you’re Liverpool, you go and get on the blower to Gigi Buffon right now. ☎️🇮🇹🙌🏻,” Barton said.

There are some fans who agree with Barton, believing that Buffon would be a fine addition for a brief spell.

Others, however, think that the former Manchester City and Newcastle United midfielder is talking utter nonsense.

Buffon has flirted with retirement for some time but his agent recently admitted that a move to Paris Saint-Germain could be on the cards.

If Liverpool know he’s available, then there are certain worse options to target.

As for Karius, the next few months will be bleak.

Thankfully he has the support of Klopp, who has vowed to help Karius recover.

“What can I say? Loris knows it, everybody knows it,” Klopp said.

“It's a shame in a game like this and after a season like this. I really feel for him; he's a fantastic boy.

"Now, he has to deal with it, we have to deal with, we will do that, of course, we will be with him, there's no doubt about that.”

Nice words from Klopp. Karius will be at a low right now, and he needs all the support he can get.
