Liverpool’s search for a new left-back is likely to see them table a bargain bid for PSV Eindhoven’s Carlos Salcido.

The 30-year-old still has two years left on his contract with the Eredivisie club but they are keen to cash in on him now.

New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is now set to swoop in a cut price £3 million deal as he bids to address the left-back crisis at the club.

The Mexican impressed at the World Cup as his side were downed in the quarter finals by Argentina in controversial style.

A whole host of left sided defenders have been linked with a move to Anfield including Wigan’s Maynor Figueroa and Real Madrid’s Royston Drenthe – who has reportedly claimed he is on the verge of a move to Merseyside via Facebook.

With Figueroa sitting high on Hodgson’s list of transfer targets, Wigan will rival Liverpool for Salcido as well as Spanish side Valencia.

The Reds, though will be favourites to land both players as they try to replace the departing Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio.
