Sadly, it looks like the super fight rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez is no longer going to head thanks to another roadblock.

Following on from the initial cancellation after Canelo was tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol, Oscar De La Hoya has revealed that the red-haired Mexican will be moving on after he failed to come to terms with Golovkin’s promoter, Tom Loeffler.

STANDSTILL

They were set to meet again on May 5 during Cinco de Mayo weekend, before Alvarez was pulled from the event and is now expected to return to the ring on September 15 as part of Mexican Independence Day weekend.

Triple G, though, went ahead with the original date and knocked out Vanes Martirosyan in two rounds, who was a late replacement for Canelo.

Since the announcement, Loeffler has revealed that the real reason this fight isn’t going ahead is because they’re chasing a 50-50 split, which isn’t being offered. Despite that, De La Hoya is continuing to bait the Kazakh knockout artist on social media in the hope that he does accept the offer to fight Canelo again.

He tweeted:@GGGBoxing good look with Sergiy Derevyanchenko who’s 11-0 and your IBF mandatory the train has moved on and going after Danny Jacobs, Saunders, @spike_osullivan.”

Only time will tell whether the public baiting will eventually work. However, it’s not the first time De La Hoya has criticised Golovkin’s desire to chase Derevyanchenko, telling Golovkin to enjoy the $1 million he’ll earn while he’ll take Canelo elsewhere.

BAIT

When speaking to Boxing Scene, he said: “(Golovkin’s) going to make the biggest payday of his life, and he’s out there dealing with the IBF, a mandatory who’s 11-0. Go ahead and fight him for a million dollars, fine. So, we’re not waiting for Golovkin anymore.

“They’ve had the contract for six weeks, so it makes no sense. We’ve gone through everything to try to make this fight. Look, Canelo did the VADA testing, the commission even tested before VADA, did the hair follicle test. What else do we have to do?”

Despite stating that Canelo will now move on, De La Hoya’s sarcastic antics on Twitter suggests that he’s still hoping the Golovkin camp makes a big U-turn and can somehow come to an arrangement to fight Canelo in a highly anticipated rematch.
