Rusev's journey to becoming a fan favourite in WWE has been a long one.

Not so long ago, he was a hated everywhere he went - although The Bulgarian Brute did have a fair amount of success during his heel run.

He's been a two time United States Champion and used to form part of The League of Nations, one of WWE's toughest stables between 2015 and 2016.

Following an injury break in the first few months of 2017 that saw him miss WrestleMania 33, Rusev returned to SmackDown Live a new man.

THE FACE TURN

He had two good feuds with John Cena and Randy Orton and despite losing in 10 seconds to The Viper at SummerSlam, Rusev was given the key to his home city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria on SmackDown the following week.

That day became known as "Rusev Day" and ever since then, he's been one of the most over superstars on the entire WWE roster.

After later declaring that "every day is Rusev Day", the fans can't get enough of Rusev, who's had a fairly impressive push following his newfound popularity.

The Bulgarian has had both Tag Team and United States title matches, lasted 30 minutes in the Royal Rumble back in January and also faced The Undertaker in a Casket Match at the Greatest Royal Rumble PPV following WrestleMania.

WHY FANS LOVE RUSEV

There's no doubt that the WWE Universe is now fully behind Rusev - and that might be down to more than his wrestling ability.

He's formed a very good partnership with Aiden English and the pair, along with Lana, are cutting some of the best promos in WWE today.

RUSEV AND CENA

Even away from the ring, Rusev is still in great form, as one of his recent interviews shows. In the clip, he's asked by the host who he thinks his biggest feud has been against.

He answered Cena, which is unsurprising given how many battles they've had over the years, but what Rusev did next really shows why fans love him.

The host goes on to suggest that Cena is a "Hollywood superstar" away from WWE, and asks Rusev if he agrees. The response is just brilliant. Check it out below.

Clearly, he doesn't quite share the same feeling that Cena is a real movie star. And can you blame him? Statements like that just ruin Rusev Day.
