Liverpool fans have taken action against Sergio Ramos for his foul on Mo Salah

It wasn't to be Liverpool's night in the Champions League as a sixth European title evaded them.

Real Madrid ran out 3-1 winners thanks to Karim Benzema and a Gareth Bale brace, with Loris Karius unwittingly making himself the architect of two of those goals.

Glaring errors aside, the Reds also suffered the misfortune of losing Mohamed Salah in the first half.

The Egyptian fell awkwardly as he was brought down by who else but Sergio Ramos and despite trying to continue, it quickly became clear he would have to be replaced with Adam Lallana.

Not only did the PFA Player of the Year and Golden Boot winner's suspected dislocated shoulder prove a devastating blow to his team's hopes of glory, it could also have big ramifications for him personally as he's now a major doubt for the World Cup.

It was the 25-year-old who got Egypt to their first World Cup since 1990 in the first place and his country's hopes are resting on his shoulders. If he is fit to play in their opener against Uruguay, it will be a minor miracle.

Maybe it wouldn't have changed anything if the former Roma and Chelsea forward had stayed on the pitch, but it's easy to see why Liverpool fans were so furious with Ramos.

So furious, it seems, that they have now taken action to punish the controversial defender.

Something had to be done...

A petition on Change.org entitled "UEFA and FIFA should punish Sergio Ramos for intentionally hurting Mohamed Salah" has already amassed over 125,000 signatures.

"Sergio Ramos intentionally kept Mohamed Salah's arm under his armpit, causing dislocation of his shoulder," the details read.

"In addition, he kept acting that Liverpool players fouled him falsely, causing the referee to give Mane a yellow card he did not deserve.

"Sergio Ramos represents an awful example to future generations of football players. Instead of winning matches fairly, he uses tricks that defy the spirit of the game and fair play.

"UEFA and FIFA should take measures against Ramos and similar players, using the video recordings of matches to keep the spirit of the game."

Well, that's certainly him told.

Real Madrid v Liverpool - UEFA Champions League Final

Sadly, that isn't how these things work, of course, and Madrid fans will maintain that it was an unfortunate accident.

The sight of Salah being taken off in tears will have bothered football fans everywhere as he is almost universally popular. At the very least it's positive to see that Kopites are focusing their anger on the Spanish international, rather than Karius.

Get well soon, Mo.
