Stan Collymore makes some ridiculous claims about who Liverpool should sign

Last night's Champions League final between turned into an unforgettable affair.

While it proved to be an agonising night for Liverpool, they still deserve plaudits for going so far in the competition.

However, Los Blancos' 3-1 victory ultimately means the Reds will end the season trophyless and having finished fourth in the Premier League, which means they could face a very difficult draw next season.

The obvious question now is how Jurgen Klopp takes this team to the next level and on a personal note, arrests his record of losing six out of his last seven finals.

Loris Karius has taken his fair share of the blame in the wake of his two howlers, but signing a new goalkeeper alone won't necessarily turn Liverpool into the best team in Europe.

Stan Collymore, who played for the club between 1995 and 1997, is among the many who would now like to see Fenway Sports Group invest in the squad this summer.

The US owners have already forked out a fair amount of money, including the purchases of £75million centre-back Virgil van Dijk and of course, Naby Keita, who will arrive in the coming months in a £48m deal.

Collymore's suggestions are crazy

Another central midfielder would not hurt and a few more defenders wouldn't hurt, but it's fair to say John Henry probably won't be taking Collymore's advice, which is nothing short of extraordinary.

Imploring the board to back Klopp, Collymore writes in the Mirror:

"I am NOT talking about signing the likes of Andy Robertson – as good as he has been.

"I AM talking about wandering into White Hart Lane, plonking £150m on the table in front of Daniel Levy and saying: ‘I’ll give you that for Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Dele Alli.’

Just imagine, for a moment, Levy's face if that actually happened.

While the 47-year-old does make a good point about Liverpool needing more strength-in-depth, he also insists a few more marquee signings should be on the cards - like when Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano moved to Merseyside as "players at the very peak of their powers".

Fair play to Collymore for sticking his neck out, but it's safe to say Liverpool won't be appointing him to their transfer committee any time soon.
