It's hard not to feel sorry for Loris Karius following his two costly mistakes in last night's Champions League final - even if you're a Liverpool fan.

The 24-year-old rolled the ball straight into Karim Benzema's path for the game's opening goal and fumbled Gareth Bale's long-range strike that made it 3-1 to Real Madrid.

He was in floods of tears at the final whistle as he apologised to Liverpool's travelling supporters and begged for forgiveness, which was pretty hard to watch.

It was always going to take time for Karius to speak publicly about his horror show and he's now taken to Instagram to express his emotions.

"Haven't really slept until now... the scenes are still running through my head again and again... I'm infinitely sorry to my teammates, for you fans, and for all the staff," Karius wrote (see below).

"I know that I messed it up with the two mistakes and let you all down. As I said I'd just like to turn back the time but that's not possible.

"It's even worse as we all felt that we could have beaten Real Madrid and we were in the game for a long time.

"Thank you to our unbelievable fans who came to Kiev and held my back, even after the game. I don't take that for granted and once again it showed me what a big family we are.

"Thank you and we will come back stronger."

It was noticed after the game that Karius didn't receive much support from his Liverpool teammates, with Bale the first person to go over and console him.

Dejan Lovren has tried to change that, though, by leaving a lovely comment on Karius' Instagram post apologising for his performance.

In the screenshot below you can see Lovren has told his heartbroken teammate that they win as a team and lose as a team.

Lovren wrote: "We win as a TEAM and we lose as a TEAM Loris! Du bist der bester bruder," which translates as: "You are the best brother."

Class. It's going to be a tough few days for Karius but it seems teammates like Lovren are there to help him through.
