The annual Monaco Grand Prix passed over once again without any major drama, which seems to happen quite a lot when Formula One comes to Monte Carlo. The big names such as Hugh Grant, Roma legend Francesco Totti and model Bella Hadid came out to watch the expensive cars speed round the tight corners and tunnels, but they didn't see much enthralling action.Daniel Ricciardo led the race from start to finish after impressing through the weekend, although he did encounter a little bit of engine trouble but it wasn't enough to make him surrender the lead. The Australian's teammate Max Verstappen tried his best to make the show more exciting, finishing in ninth position after starting at the back of the grid following his horrific qualifying crash, but even the 20-year-old Dutchman couldn't deliver much.It was still joyous for Red Bull though as Ricciardo put the pit-stop nightmares of Monaco 2016 behind him to record a second victory of the season."Two years later I finally feel like redemption has arrived," said Ricciardo."We had a lot to deal with during the race. I felt loss of power and I thought the race was done. I got home just using six gears. Thanks to the team I got it back."There were a few doubts getting it to the end of the race but we won Monaco."Fernando Alonso meanwhile had to retire his McLaren whilst in seventh position due to a gearbox problem, and the Spaniard was critical of the course for it's lack of action. "This is probably the most boring race ever," said the brutally honest Alonso to Motorsport.

"Without a safety car, without yellow flags, I think the sport needs to think a little bit about the show because this is very disappointing.

"Probably the most boring race ever in Formula 1.

"So I think we probably need to give something to the fans at the end of the race just to pay the ticket back a little.

"I think it's just Monaco, it's the way it is. I think it was quite boring without a safety car or anything.

"We just start in our qualifying position and we run until the chequered flag in that position."

Alonso isn't the only one who's thinking along those lines though. Numerous F1 fans around the world have taken to social media to duplicate the legendary driver's thoughts.

Even famous British television presenter Andrew Neil lambasted the race on his page, summing it up by saying; "Never tell me cricket is boring!"

With the race coming under-fire more than ever before, it will be interesting to see whether F1 owners Liberty Media, who haven't been shy to shake up the sport in recent months, will listen to the fans' obvious concerns about the famous race.

One thing is for certain though, if you tune in to the race next year, don't expect too many crashes!
