The 2017/18 Champions League final will forever be remembered for numerous reasons, starting with Mohamed Salah and his heartbreaking injury.

Following his amazing debut season at Liverpool the Egyptian was expected to play a major role in Kiev, but he was forced to be replaced in the 30th minute with a shoulder injury.

Gareth Bale then stole headlines with a stunning overhead kick that usurped Zinedine Zidane's goal in 2002 as the greatest to be scored in a Champions League final.

And then there's Loris Karius, who made two embarrassing mistakes that both led to goals for Real Madrid.

Karius was an emotional wreck at full-time as he begged for forgiveness from the travelling Liverpool fans. It was hard to watch and you couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

Even Jamie Carragher, who never usually shies away from being critical, couldn't bring himself to slam the German goalkeeper.

"There will be a lot of eyes on him to see how he deals with this. He is a young man and I really feel sorry for him," he said. "I wouldn't be critical of him after the final.

CARRAGHER "DEVASTATED" FOR KARIUS

"We've all had bad games and it's just a shame that his came in the biggest game of his life, in the biggest game in club football. I'm devastated for the lad."

However, Carragher did admit that Liverpool need a new goalkeeper this summer and Karius may even have to leave the club.

"It might be difficult for him [to stay at Liverpool] after this," he added. "Whatever happened in the final would not have changed my view that Liverpool need a goalkeeper."

So what does Jurgen Klopp make of Karius after Saturday's drama? Well, according to the Mirror, Liverpool's manager has already made a few decisions on the shot-stopper.

Klopp isn't going to sell Karius this summer because Simon Mignolet looks set to leave, but he is going to step up his pursuit for a new No.1.

AS Roma's Alisson is the man Klopp wants, while Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak has also emerged as a target.

Klopp was prepared to give Karius a chance to prove he's good enough to be Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper but now he's lost faith and will demote him back to second choice.

Karius can have no complaints about that decision after his performance against Real and he should count himself lucky that he's not going to be sold.
