Sergio Ramos is not a very popular man on Merseyside right now.

Liverpool's hopes against Real Madrid in the Champions League final rested mainly on Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian had been terrific this season, and Liverpool needed him at his best to inspire them to a sixth European Cup triumph.

He did start the game well, with the Reds well on top.

But then disaster struck in the 29th minute, as Salah was hauled to the ground by Ramos.

The biggest night of Salah's career came to a devastating end just three minutes later, and Liverpool would go on to lose the final 3-1.

It is believed that the Egyptian has sustained a dislocated shoulder, although it is hoped he will have recovered in time for the start of the World Cup.

OUTRAGE AGAINST RAMOS

Liverpool fans have reacted angrily given the circumstances of their defeat.

And most of the outrage has been directed in the way or Ramos. A petition has already been created to get Ramos punished for 'intentionally' injuring Salah, and has been signed by almost 300,000 fans.

Andy Robertson has now had his say on the matter, and it must be said he's spoken total sense.

The Scotsman revealed his belief that the Spaniard was 'clever', although he added that Liverpool are clutching at straws thinking that he intentionally injured Salah.

"I think it is just how he (Salah) has landed but Ramos is quite clever, isn't he?" Robertson said.

"We are clutching at straws if we are saying that. It's unfortunate. It just disrupted our rhythm a wee bit.

"He has done unbelievable this season and for it to end that way for him was devastating. I hope he goes to the World Cup because a nation is a relying on him.

"Hopefully he'll come back bigger and stronger."

Well said, Robertson.

That's a very mature reaction from someone who would still be emotionally charged from Saturday night's events.

Whatever you think of Ramos, to say he intentionally injured Salah is going a bit over the top.

It was just unfortunate that Salah landed awkwardly.

ROBERTSON'S COMMENTS ON KARIUS

Karius also endured a nightmare night as his two blunders cost Liverpool the trophy.

And Robertson had some words for encouragement for his teammate.

"We win as a team, we lose as a team," added Robertson. "We fell short.

"Loz has been incredible since he go the number one jersey. He is young and he will learn from it. He will be a top keeper.

"There are no words that we can say that will make it better for him. We went around him. We all gave him a hug and tried to lift him."
